On September 4, "2014 CIPTE International Paper Technology Seminar”, co-hosted by China Technical Association of Paper Industry, Finnish Paper Engineer Association, and China National Pulp and Paper Research Institute, coordinated by Shanghai Technical Association of Paper Industry as well as organized by China Paper Magazine, was held in exhibition hall of Shanghai Expo. Nearly 260 representatives from domestic and overseas paper related enterprise, institutions of higher education and research institute attended the seminar. Chen xuezhong, President of China Technical Association of Paper Industry, said, “At present, China ranks the first in the world in both production and consumption of paper and paperboard. Meanwhile, China’s paper industry is constrained by resources, energy, and environment, and such problem is becoming increasingly prominent. The paper industry needs to change its development mode and speed up its structural adjustment. In the seminar of this time, we specially invited experts from home and abroad to make technical reports on current hot issues of pulp and paper making. The purpose is to make people in the industry understand the forward-looking technology and development trend of the paper industry, so as to help domestic enterprises to make technological progress, improve quality, reduce consumption, save energy and reduce emission.

Cao Pufang, the consultant of China Technical Association of Paper Industry, introduced the development of China’s paper industry during the 12th Five-year Plan, she review the situation of the implementation of the Paper Industry’s Development under the12th Five-year Plan in the country, and analyzed and elaborated the main problems existed in the implementation of the plan. She believed that in the first three years, the raw material structure of the paper industry continued to improve, the product structure had been adjusted and optimized to a certain level, industrial concentration had also been realized, and progress in independent equipment manufacturing had been made; besides, resource utilization had been increased significantly, the effect of energy conservation and emission reduction was outstanding, and great achievement had been made in the elimination of the backward production capacity, which had strongly promoted the healthy and stable development of the paper industry. However, there were still some major problems, such as serious contradiction between supply and demand of the raw materials, great pressure on energy conservation and emission reduction, and the decline in the increase of profit rate and profit tax rate, etc.

Experts elaborated "the baseline of sustainable development and major potential for improvement in the European pulp and paper industry", and the chief scientist of VTT technology research center in Finland elaborated "the possible breakthrough technologies in the European pulp and paper industry". A representative of Finland GloCell, elaborated "paper raw material optimization -- the key to save raw materials and energy in the production of paper and cardboard". Zhanghui, president of the College of Light Industry Science and Engineering, Nanjing Forestry University, introduced the latest development of the domestic pulping and paper making equipment; experts in Finland Valmet introduced the current production method and technology of the coated paperboard; experts in Finland Andritz introduced biomass gasification or wood power burning be used as substitute of fossil fuel in lime kiln; German Voit Paper Co., LTD used practical case to introduce the latest paper making technology in the world. During the discussion and exchange session, the representatives and the guest speakers had a heated discussion and communication on the new technologies, new equipment and the prospect of China’s paper industry introduced in the above-mentioned report. According to the representatives in the seminar, the technical report this time seized the hot topic of the technology in the industry, and was well-targeted, which enabled them to have a new understanding of the sustainable development and possible new technology of the pulp and paper industry.
